Sexual Addiction? Intrusive thoughts?

I'm having intrusive thoughts because of porn addiction. They aren't that frequent, but they're enough to know that I don't want to have them at all. (I'm currently in a recovering process) But I want to know... Is it possible to have gay thoughts that I would consider intrusions? Can porn do that to you? That means I'm not really gay, right? After all I don't feel that way, but I should recover from PA first.

Yes, porn addiction can take you down roads that don't have any relation to what you're normally attracted to.

It works exactly like a drug, and what you start off with will not be enough after a while, so the porn addict will search for stronger material to get a reaction from themselves, often resorting to stuff that would once have repulsed them.

Um, just now I was thinking about a friend of mine who was male, and I just randomly started thinking what it would be like to date him and I spiked really bad...

Sexuality has nothing to do with addiction (from a biological standpoint). It could be you have repressed desires or urges related to the same sex, that were never brought to the surface of your consciousness. Its possible the sexual addiction can be triggering some of these desires you never realized you had, thus, bringing them into your awareness. However the addiction itself does not create these desires that were not already there, deep down. It is important that you finish your recovery process however, before deciding whether to act on your desires, as doing so, may confuse-re trigger you even more, in your vulnerable emotional state. Don't misunderstand me, I'm not gay, nor have I ever had any desires like that.

Trying_to_help, I hate to disagree with you. However, what you said makes absolutely no sense, and, there is a lot of evidence to the contrary of your opinion. How can you say sexuality has nothing to do with an addiction, when the addiction itself (in this case) is sexuality? I recommend you do some reading on porn addiction. Before you spout something like that off to someone. Especially someone with a potentially obsessive personality.

To the OP, I have been in a similar state as you in one form or another for going 1.5-2 years now. I have a case of porn induced HOCD/porn addiction. Before 2 years ago, I never had any homosexual thoughts or urges other than fleeting thoughts (more accurately questions) caused by the prolonged antagonistic accusations of others. I recommend reading up on porn addiction, just a simple google search will tell you all you need to know. Porn addiction leads to some very dark, dark places. Including completely ego-dystonic behavior, all in search of that dopamine high.

I have done some things, since suffering with this disorder, that I never would have never imagined myself doing. Porn addiction, is a very terrible thing. As are the places it can take you. OCD, also is a terrible thing, in every form, people should be a little more careful, how the word things or what they say to people potentially suffering from it.

To Trying_to_help Freud may have had some valid points in his time. However, a lot of his hypotheses have been proven wrong over the years. To be completely honest, he was a kook. I'd be a little more weary of blindly subscribing to his school of thought. There are circumstances whoch can play on sexuality, or potentially make a person question their sexuality, outside of latent homosexuality.
