Dependant on meds

Postby Comingoutofmyshell » Tue Nov 15, 2011 5:17 am

I've been taking Seroquel for nearly a year now as I suffer from insomnia, recently I have tried to sleep without the meds but still I'm awake for hours... I've only tried this for 2 days in a row and due to work/family life I really need the sleep.

My concern is the dependance on the Seroquel and it's long term effects and so was wondering if any here have experienced coming off Seroquel or meds in general and whether you were able to sleep normally again or just continue long term on meds for sleep?

Wow.. this is wierd.

I've been having insomnia now for a good 2 weeks or so (going 2-3 nights on 3 or less hours).. then sleeping a max of 6, then repeating.

I'm slowly losing motor function, falling, etc. My mind still seems fine though.

I'm on Seroquil and Clenazopam + lithium, all of which are supposed to knock you da ###$ out.

I'm actually going to my docs this wednesday.. so if i find anything out regarding seroquil, i'll let you know. I probably have just developed a tolerance, and need a higher dose.. but how long can they just increase the dose?

Ironically.. i take those meds for nothing to do with insomnia.

I used to go for days nodding off here and there and it would be great up to day 3 and then it was a killer... You can survive on 'napping' alone, Polyphasic which I did for about a year and then something came up.

I used to use anti depressants and Seroquel and some other crap of other reasons but things have changed. Although the insomnia is still a problem and if left awake anything could happen so I stuck with the magic pill

Anyway I spoke to my doc about the effects and long term use and dependance and all she kept saying was don't worry at this point. Well... yeah... great but what about in 6mths... 12mths... etc... And I know it's not classed as addictive I do however see that I could get quite dependant, which I believe is the same diff.

I declined lithium, don't you have to stick to a stick diet and blood tests?

Anyways dose can go up to about 200mg of Seroquel after that it only has it's uses as an anti-psychotic, I was told... I've gone from 12.5 to 50 to 100 dependant on my alcohol intake that evening.

So if you find out anything new that'll be much appreciated...

Just pray you don't end up in my boat. I was on Ambein and we kept upping the dose. this worked for maybe 9mo. a year. Then I got tolerance to the drug. So we took me off Ambein and put me on Lunesta for three months. The lunesta worked that time round but I got toelerance to that too after 3 mo. and was at the max dose.@ which point it was deemed okay to put me back on the Ambein  because the tolerance should have gone away after 3 month on Lunesta not taking Ambein. So then I went back on the Ambein as I was saying... well about three months ago it stoped working at max dose again... So naturally they started me back on Lunesta  this time round on lunesta they started me on 1mg first...it didn't work. I'm now @ 2mg, and folks it is near 1 in the morning and I took the drug four hours ago! This is what I will be doing and dealing with most likely till the day I die I will hop skip and jump btwn Ambein and Lunesta folks till neither one works and I die by O.D.ing or something in desperation to sleep. This is invariable what your doctors will do with your sleeping meds awell.. they will just keep switching them out as you get tolerant of them and then sticking you back on as you untolerate of them... which somehow is still doing me absolutely no good bkz of course I am up here posting and talking to y'all!
P.S. I am sorry for how hogwashed this came out as I said I took my meds four hours ago... If I do fall asleep I invariable won't remeber writing this post in the morning because I wrote it while drugged with Lunesta :D I'm okay with this it is perfectly fine my bank accounts will remain stable unlike the time I went online shopping while under the influence of Ambein@ like 4am :? Note to everyone do not go online and buy magazine subscriptions while medicated :P

You bought a freakin' canoe? Oh my gosh that so beats me! I got scamed they took my credit card number of another site where I was paying to download music and sent me what suposed to be free magizines but they were charging me for the mags. I couldn't get anything to stop them till one day I "misplaced" (had stolen) my wallet and had to change my charge card and walla they no longer have my charge card number and no longer send me mags. I swear I got over 200 mags. easy and they were like real ones like Time, National Geographic, Popular Mechanic, Sport's Illistrated for kid, The Simithsonian yaddah yaddah. The people I rented a room from were ready to like pull their hairs out there was like two mags a day for a while :!:

One of the most commonly reported problems of coming off Seroquil is insomnia. Even for people without sleep problems, it can cause insomnia.

If you really feel you want to stop taking Seroquil, you need to get a recommendation from your doctor on how to do it. From what I read, it will be a bad couple of weeks. The doctor might have something to make it better than unbearable.

I don't have any late night shopping stories. I don't like shopping at all: not in stores or on line. You can find me outside ebay on the wooden bench talking to bored husbands about football while the girls are antiquing.

Yes this I fear and believe is happening...

So off to book a trip to a secluded island with endless supply of cocktails...

My bank balance would prefer that and the football talk, well that could help the insomnia ;)

What dose?

+ valium? Although saying that I did and that didn't work either. Looks like meds - limited sleep or no meds - no sleep and now a dependant...
