16 years old need advice

Postby Ectoplasm » Sun Jan 02, 2011 5:05 pm

Alright I'm 16 and get 4 hours of sleep every night. I find it odd that I'm never tired, and show no signs of sleep deprivation. Also me and my twin brother go to the gym and lift the exact same weight and he doesn't progress at a faster rate and he gets 8 hours or more every night.

I've been getting this much sleep now about 4 months. Do you guys think I need more sleep or am I fine?

you´re o.k.

if you feel fine there is nothing to worry about,

some people need less and some need more,

just make sure you don´t go to bed too late at night,

as time time passes you may need more as your body grows,.

I think at this point you may not be showing any negative affects of only getting four hours of sleep a night, but I would highly recommend exploring options to try and get more sleep.
I know that different people need different amounts of sleep to function normally. The "typical" healthy amount is at least seven hours a night, and that's the bare minimum.

I'm 21 and for years I got by with little to no sleep a night and was functioning normally. But recently it all caught up to me, and my sleep deficit at this point is huge. I've been diagnosed with primary insomnia. And my doc's goal is for me to be getting no less than seven hours of sleep a night, anything less is not enough. My sleep habits are awful because I let them be so out of whack for so long.

I guess my point is that everything may seem totally fine now, but I would really try to get more sleep if I were you just to avoid any serious issues somewhere down the line. Good luck with everything :)

Alright I'm going to see a doctor sometime this month about this. Will he most likely give me medication? I've tried just about everything I've read on the internet to improve sleep and nothing worked. If he does suggest meds, which one do you guys think is best for me?

This is just me speaking from personal experience. I'm not a doctor or anything. :P

Typically doctors are pretty hesitant to prescribe hypnotics, especially to teens just because of their risk of dependency or abuse. Your doctor will probably talk to you about healthy sleeping habits and all that. The first time I went to my doctor to talk about sleep they recommended things like melatonin and teas, which did absolutely nothing for me. Haha. They might recommend an anti-anxiety med at a low dose like Xanax or Klonopin because they can have sedating effects. And for a lot of people that does the trick.
I highly doubt they'll suggest anything like Ambien, which is pretty much a last resort sleep medication.

As for what's best for you, only you can really know that. Sometimes it takes a while to find what works best, but if you work with your doctor I'm sure y'all will figure something out.
If you want someone to talk to who has gone through/is going through a similar sleep predicament, feel free to message me.

YeahI've tried melatonin and herbal teas and had no effects.

I've looked on the net about good sleeping habits and have tried them all and still nothing. I have no problem falling asleep, I just can't stay asleep. It has to be due to Accutane since I've never had sleeping problems ever in my life before I was on it.

drop the accutane,

for acne use clay masks...they sell them at health food stores,

and go to a steam room to sweat out the toxins,

drink plenty of purified water and eat healthy foods, no sugar or junk foods,

your acne will disappear in not time...and you´ll be healthy without drugs,

taking medication for sleep will only make things worse,

cause your sleep problem is the accutane,

drugs are poison,

avoid them and look to natural remedies for all yoru health needs,

natural remedies are slower but have no serious side effects like drugs.
