Need a STRONG sleep med

Postby Vigilant994 » Tue Feb 27, 2018 11:41 pm

4 mg of Klonopin will not work. 4 mg of Xanax worked for about a week. 30 mg of Temazepam will not work. Ambien CR will not work. Could someone please suggest a sleep med that will knock me out?

What about Zolpidem?

Thanks.

You might want to consider something like mirtzapine/remeron, seroquel or risperodone. I don't know if you've tried trazodone before. Cannabis might be a good option if it's available for you. I'm where you are, now. I went to the sleep clinic and they suggested Sleep restriction therapy.

Are you skipping any steps for basic sleep hygiene? might be a good option, or CBT.

Ambien is Zolpidem. You can try zopiclone or one of the other Z class drugs, but if Ambien's not working I have low expectations they will.

I would be very leery about selecting and administering your own sleep medications. That sounds a lot like drug addict behavior to me.
You want to rule out anything that may be easily treatable without drugs first. There are many types and causes of sleep disorders. There just isn't one magic chemical to address all of them.
Always diagnose first before throwing meds at anything.
I would begin with a physical exam by your primary physician who may order blood tests, etc. From there, your primary physician may refer you on to a specialist, depending on what is found. Insurance companies are generally friendly about doctor (professional) referrals.
Best of luck to you. :D

The psychiatrist I see prescribed Ambien for me but it only helps me fall asleep but it does not help me stay asleep. I am currently taking Amitriptyline for insomnia and it knocks me out. It does take a while to work. I give it at least an hour and a half to two hours to work, so I take it earlier and then I find out how it works on me. I tried many sleep aids and none of those worked for me. I didn't like Doxepin nor Seroquel either. I can tolerate this one, but I suppose it is a trial and error method of figuring out what works for you. Talk to your doctor/psychiatrist about what other problems you may be having such as not being able to stay fully asleep. Also, I personally am very afraid of taking Ambien because of 3 stories I heard about it's possible side effect of sleep walking. But I have taken it in the past and now more recent past and it didn't cause that side effect. Still, you should be told that this is a possible side effect of the drug. Good luck to you and keep us updated on how things turn out for you. We all want to know what has helped others get some much needed Z's.
