how long until trazodone works for insomnia?

Postby BabyBunny » Sat Jun 02, 2007 2:38 am

hi

i would like any info anyone has to share about how long it takes for trazodone to make you sleepy?

i took 150 mg over an hour ago and do feel a little sleepy but not enough to actually get to sleep.

i only started taking trazodone a few days ago but have yet to feel any hypnotic effects.

does anyone have any advice as i suffer from chronic insomnia and just want to get some rest.

thanks for reading

1) have an exact schedule and sleep ritual....2)when you go to bed if you do not fall asleep within 20 min, get up and distract....3)before bed stylize you bedtime ritual with a hot bath, glass of wine, candles, etc...4)no eating after an early supper...excercise after supper...thise few little tips will help train your brain to associate your bedroom and bed with sleep only....NOT lying awake....whatever u r doing to distract, do it in another room for 30 min, then try again...in a while, u will not associate going to bed with bad things, insomnia, re-training your habits is crucial. i also reccomend probly, ambien er....lunesta, those clases of sleep drugs. remember, 20 min, if no sleep get up, walk around, only go to bed when it is for sleep, not reading, etc....your mind will eventually get used to the idea. more tips if u like... take care, 'core

The onset of trazodone sleeping aid effect is about 1-3 hours. To help with sleep it should be taken about 1 hour before bedtime, and its effects usually last about 8 hours. If you don't experience it’s hypnotic effect, probably this drug is not for you.
