Hey guys, since a month I don't have Insomnia anymore and I can not share how good that feels.
I have suffered from it for over 10 years, but since learning simple meditation techniques, I sleep every night. Not so much as a normal person, but my body is rested and my mind is bright.
I wrote a blog about it. Just some simple information on how the meditation works and how it affects me. If you have questions about it, feel free to ask.
regards, Erik

Thanks Erik. I tried meditation and it definitely helps. After some years of observation and trial/error, I discovered that the following definitely adds to my insomnia:
- watching tv or any bright screen shortly before sleeping
- eating before sleeping
- having an unproductive day
- unresolved arguments
- exercising shortly before sleep
- alcohol
- consuming liquids shortly before sleep
And the solution that honestly works is to simply avoid/correct those behaviours. If I do the following, I sleep well (or at least much better):
- avoid any screens a couple hours before planning on going to sleep. There's something about the bright unnatural light and/or the frequency of the screen (technically it's "refresh rate") that causes my mind to race which results in insomnia
- avoid eating at least a few hours before bed. A full stomach always results in sleepless nights for me.
- if I feel I haven't been productive that day, it's as if my conscience is punishing me for my laziness
- resolve arguments before hitting the pillow
- don't exercise at least 5+/- hours before sleep. Exercise elevates your heart rate for many hours after you're done,.... this always keeps me up.
- although some people may sleep better with alcohol, it does the opposite for me
- liquids make me pee in the middle of the night which means I have to get up and go = interrupted sleep.
