maybe you can help.

okay.. i'm twenty years old, female. the only medication i'm on is depo provera. i've been on it for about three and a half months.

in the last month or month and a half, i've been suffering horrible insomnia. i would go to bed at a normal time for me (between midnight and two am), and not get to sleep until six to eight am.

i thought maybe it was just a poor sleep schedule, so i tried to change it. i woke up one night at about 5pm, so i planned to stay awake until 11pm the next night. it didn't work. i ended up staying awake until around 7am again. all day feeling groggy, but wanting to end this stupid sleep pattern.

so i finally get to sleep.. and then i end up sleeping for twelve hours. have weird dreams.

even with massive amounts of sleep, and interrupted sleep to make sure i only get 6-8 hours, i feel exhausted and groggy all day.

for the past two weeks or so, i've been seeing a ton of shadow people and objects that my brain says aren't there, but my mind is freaked out by them.

i do not do meth. i do not do any drugs. i rarely drink caffiene these days, and when i do it's not much. maybe 12 ounces of coke per month.

can anyone help me figure this out? i've tried sleeping pills, but they don't work. surely, it was trazodone, but even at 150mg, i did not sleep.

i have an appointment with my shrink on the thirteenth of december.. but i'd really like an answer/solution before then.

preferably not medication.

thanks ahead of time.

As you've stated that you do not want to take anymore drugs, get some Tahitian Noni Juice (a natural health supplement) as soon as possible, its available online if you just type the key name. It solved my chronic sleep problem in less than a week. The hallucinations you may be experiences may be due to sleep deprevation. Try the Tahitian Noni Juice. I can swear by it.

Good Luck

This may seem horribly off-topic, but... when I was depressed, my sleep cycles (which have always been problematic) were much like yours. I had nightmares and weird dreams all the time, felt lethargic from too much or not enough sleep, etc.

I'm not saying you're depressed (although you should do a little thinking on that just in case). You may be suffering from the changing seasons and a lack of exposure to sunlight... it helps us produce serotonin which in turn assists us in regulating sleep, appetite, etc. Also, exercise and eating right plays a big factor.

So, take a brisk, sunny walk, eat your veggies, and see if that makes a dent at all before your appointment. Hopefully, your shrink will have a solution for you.

I don't know much about Noni Juice... here's a link for that as well: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Noni_juice

damn this sucks.

this week i've had weird sleep patterns.

i've slept for 12 hours. 1 hour. 10 hours. 5 hours the night before last, and then 14 last night, and i would have slept longer but as i was half asleep i made my boyfriend get me up.

i don't trust supplements because they do not need to be approved by the fda, and therefore don't have to prove anything or show the ingredients inside.

:/

Did you try any of my suggestions yet? Have you been eating right and doing a little exercising? Try it and see... I know you must be really frustrated. :(

Banana, I think the Depo provera is the cause of your insomnia. Trying switching to another method and see how you do. 6 months ago my chronic insomnia started when I started taking a new brand of birth control. When I switched back to my old pill I slept better but I'm still batting sleepless nights. Chronic insomnia is difficult to get rid of. It takes time. For natural sleep aids, I'd recommend 1 gram of Tryptophan and 0.25mg of melatonin at bedtime to train your body to get back into its sleep wake cycles. You won't see improvements until weeks later like I did.
