Wake Too Early Insomnia

Postby Nevermind » Tue Dec 30, 2014 4:34 am

Ever since taking some type of Omega-3 supplements (fish oil or flaxseed oil) and then suddenly stopping, I've been having the same disrupted sleep pattern.

I always wake a few hours too early, usually can't fall back asleep and then am tired the rest of the day.

Any advice?

I know that's a really obvious question, but have you tried taking the supplements again?

I have not tried that, do you think I should?

I'm afraid it could make it worse, but then again I doubt that

Nocturia (waking up to pee) might also be contributing to the problem :(

Seeing as the problem started when you quit taking the supplements -- it might be an idea. Although I don't know why you stopped using them of course.

I don't know what to do with nocturia :(

I wake too early to. I can get up and do normal, calm stuff...read, tv, prepare a cup of hot decaf drink, and then after an hour or so go back to sleep for another hour or two. I go to bed early so I have time to go back to sleep again. I don't like it, but it seems to be my best chance of getting the most rest. Sometimes I can take a nap for maybe an hour, but I will still only sleep 5 to 7 hours a night total. 7 hours is good. I feel pretty good on 7 hours. 4 hours is not so good...I know the next day will be long and I'll be exhausted by the end of the day and depressed, just wanting to rest.

I have to have calm in the hours before going to bed. Actually being out working all day and around people stresses me out enough thst I need several hours to wind down before trying to sleep. If I'm out late and have been active, I need to wind down, watch tv, read, quiet, before trying to sleep. It's not that I won't fall asleep...I never have trouble falling asleep, its staying asleep for more than a few hours that is difficult.

I've tried nyquil but don't like feeling drowsy the next morning. Melotonin helps sometimes. I tried prescription sleep meds, but they didn't help or I got up sleepwalking and doing things I didn't remember doing during the night, which was weird and dangerous...people have actually drives cars in their sleep while sleepwalking on that stuff.

according to helpguide.org http://www.helpguide.org/articles/sleep/how-much-sleep-do-you-need.htm you can get by with 7.5 hours of sleep, but i have heard people get by with 5 hours, It's within the quality of sleep u get. another big thing is the sleep cycles. u cycle from 90 minute to antoher cycle. When u wake up between 80-90-100 min u wake up fully rested. all the other will result in the feeling of not getting enough rest.
That's why u see people who can get by with 5 hours and people who wake up miserable even though they had 11 hours. I know it's hard but if u calculate your alarm u can get the perfect sleep.

About a month ago, I was reading about supplements that might be beneficial for my personality disorder. After reading an article, I decided to give vitamin b6 a try. Not a b complex vitamin, but vitamin b6 alone. I acquired some from gnc in 100 mg tablets, but it's available at many vitamin shops and health food stores as well. I found taking a single 100mg tablet 20 minutes before breakfast, on an empty stomach to help a bit with two issues...my depression and my sleep. I tried taking an additional tablet at bed time, but found it was detrimental to my sleep. I read where that too much has the opposite effect..well, it seemed to on me as well, but I wanted to try it. It's no big deal, but I wanted to share what I'd discovered so someone else may be helped a bit by something relatively simple and inexpensive. I realize everyone is different and what helps me may not be of benefit for you. Your mileage may vary :)
