Hi Angeladobson,
I am happy to tell you what has helped me. I recovered from insomnia a few years ago. While I was going through it, I ended up on a tranquilizer for over a year. Getting off of it was horrific. After I recovered from the withdrawal, what helped me sleep soundly was nutrients. There are many ways to get them, but I have found that a quality source of greens is necessary, along with a magnesium/calcium supplement and probiotics (which make stomach lining able to absorb nutrients).
I use the Garden of Life Super Green formula (a scoop a day in water) and also the Vitacost brand 35 million strain probiotics. Dolomite powder is a natural and inexpensive source of magnesium and calcium. *mod edit- please PM if interested in store website*
Our bodies totally rely on nutrients to function how they are supposed to. I have found nutrients to be HUGE. There are also certain foods I must stay away from because they interfere with sleep: artificial sweeteners, unusual sweeteners of any kind, lots of processed foods, etc.
I do alot of other things like sleep with a noise machine and ear plugs, and dim lights and stay away from electronics a couple hours before bed. But I would say nutrients are definitely #1 for me. I sleep better than I did before I started having trouble with insomnia years ago. I hope that the nutrients can help you too.
