Hi guys I was just wondering if you guys could give me some advice on sleep problems I've been having for years now. Im 29-years-old and for the past 4 years I've been having sleep problems that mainly have to do with sleep maintenance and poor sleep quality in general.
The sleep problems started when I did a dock work job 4 years ago that involved being on-call day and night 24/7. I think the job may have broken my circadian rhythm in my body. I have no problem at all falling asleep at the beginning of the night, but I will wake up at least 2 or 3 times in the night and have to fall back asleep. This happens almost every night. Two years ago I had a sleep study done and nothing but found like having sleep apnea or anything like that. I lost 55 lbs in the last 6 months and Im still not sleeping any better than I did when I was heavier. My sleep quality also seems to be poor for no reason some nights. I've slept of 8 hours some nights and it felts like I barely slept at all. I know its not from stress because I have nothing to stress about right now. I would say 3 out of the 7 nights I sleep fine and the quality will be good, but I will still wake up two or three times in the night.
I've gone to multiple doctors in the past for this problem but they just give me the same b.s. "don't eat before bed, dont use technology, read a book.." nothing helps. Ive altered EVERYTHING. I used to think that exercise was affecting my sleep, but Im still not sure. It certainly doesn't help me sleep any better than if I didn't.
At this point I'm at wits end. It's ruining my young-adult life. I hesitate to plan stuff with my friends because I think that day might be the day I sleep like $#%^ the night before and not want to do anything. The only thing I can think of to do now is try to go to a sleep specialist that is highly regarded near me or something.
Any advice?
