Hello James,
I think this is a moment when Psychforums is not really the best help you can get. We're not professionals here. We share our experience. We don't know your background, whether you use medication, are diagnosed with some sort of illness, etc. So even if someone has seen Sporadic Fatal Insomnia in their family, the experience will probably be irrelevant.
I would suggest getting in touch with a doctor as quickly as possible. I don't know how things work in your country but where I am you begin with a GP who refers you to a specialist. In the meantime possibly prescription sleeping aids could be helpful -- while they are addictive and not a long-term solution (if possible) they might give you some rest both physically and mentally by relieving you of some of your anxiety. But -- again -- only a medical professional can decide on whether this is the way to go and if yes then what exactly to prescribe.
According to Wikipedia (yes, I know, a "very" reliable source) humans don't die of sleep deprivation. But I am sure you will be able to find contradictory articles in search engines' depths. Please don't do it. Let your doctor do the dirty work.
Big hugs and I hope you get some good sleep soon!
