Hi secretsounds!, I have an almost similar story.
I prepare the ground for it! so it does not happen magically at 11 o'clock at night.
during the day I take magnesium to calm me down,
I am careful not to have a heavy meal at night, my heavy meal is around 5p.m.
I have seen that if I see something funny on tv instead of violent or a thriller, it also helps.
when I have gone for a walk around 18p.m is incredibly positive.
so when the day peaks down, all your activities have to slowly decrease, preparing you for the great moment. I am using something in my ears, and is helping a lot!! (even though I have severe tinnitus) still helps me. I am with 4mg melatonine....I do not know how long, but it is helping.
I see that my anxiety, and nervousness during the day, makes me wake up too early in the morning,...I realize I have to make other changes regarding my expectations during the day.
and be positive as you try any of the above....have an open attitude, look forward with eagerness for the time that you will lay in bed ( I read also a couple of paginas, to let a sweet flavour before I sleep). I am not exaggerating, make your day a preparation for the night.
eventually will not be necessarily so extreem but at the beginning you need to do it! good luck!!
