I was seeing a shrink for mine but it hasn't lead anywhere in terms of identifying the cause of my insomnia, I think I've had a pretty normal life. No childhood problems aside from the occasional school yard fight in elementary school, no problem with women or home life. So it might just be something up in my wiring.

You can really increase your chances of getting a good nights sleep by ensuring you are comfortable throughout the night. If the body is relaxed, you are more likely to shut-down than if you were up and lively.
Try buying a memory foam mattress. They've not overly-expensive, and are designed so that they adjust to your body movements. I bought one a few months ago and I've seen massive improvements in my sleeping patterns and overall well-being.

I Think Insomnia is caused by a variety of reasons.
However, a person with severe sleep apnea caused by obesity or other issue - cannot sleep either and may require a machine and pills to help them sleep at night.
In general, stress and depression are the main
causes of insomnia.

Insomnia is usually a symptom of another condition though primary insomnia can occur. Conditions that can cause insomnia include psychiatric disorders like depression or anxiety. Other common causes are drug abuse, sleep apnea, Alzheimer’s disease, restless leg syndrome, and other chronic disorders like congestive heart failure or COPD. Insomnia can be worsened by poor sleeping conditions such as sleeping in a warm, muggy room or having an uncomfortable mattress.
