Insomnia medications

Hi there,

New to this forum so sorry if I'm posting in the wrong spot or something. I've had insomnia since I was a teenager. I'm 32 now. It's related to anxiety and OCD. Except for some reason the anxiety and OCD only seems to hit around bed time. I've been self-medicating with Zolpiclone and Zolpidem for years but really don't want to keep taking them. I finally saw a psychiatrist who prescribed Mirtazapine as a longer term solution but I responded poorly to it - even at the smallest doses I felt like I was on elephant tranquilizers and couldn't work and the 18 hours of sleep I was getting didn't feel restful. We're now considering Voldoxan but I'm starting a new job soon so don't want to experiment with an all new drug until I've settled into work more. The Pdoc has given me xanax for the short term. Has anyone found it useful for sleep? At what dose? What anti-anxiety/depressant drugs have people found most helpful and safe as a longterm solution for insomnia?

Thank you
hollykitkat
