My faith is important to me, and while I think it shapes who I am. I don't think it has helped me deal with my issues in life. I think, as a teen and in college it helped me avoid drugs, so in that sense it allowed me to avoid some things that could only have complicated my life.
I know my life has been far from the ideal espoused by Christian ideals. There was a time in my mid-teens that this bothered me, but I've since pretty much reconciled myself to falling short in some ways. You may recall St. Augustine's quip that I can relate to: "Lord make me celibate, but not yet'."
