I have been dating a woman who seems to be at least mildly histrionic. She says she was sexually abused/molested at age 5-8 by her pediactric physician as revealed during therapy. Can anyone shed some light on any connection between sexual abuse a histrionic personality disorder?

As far as i've read on this disorder and from abuse I don't see a connection.

I read that parents with HP can result in exploitation of and failure to protect children from emotional, physical, or sexual abuse.

HP histrionic personality disorder is a pervasive and excessive pattern of emotionality and attention-seeking behavior. These individuals are lively, dramatic, enthusiastic, and flirtatious. They may be inappropriately sexually provocative, express strong emotions with an impressionistic style, and be easily influenced by others etc.

I do not know more then that. The abuse issue could be something all together different. I don't think that it causes histrioic personality disorder... Something to try perhaps to read up on through the web etc and see if there is a possible connection?

child sexual abuse

This HPD woman may be using the child sexual abuse thing as an attention getting ploy/pity/excuse. The more I read and learn I believe she is definately HPD. She absolutely displays all the criteria. Being a social worker she is a master manipulator. She told me she spent 12 yrs in therapy for depression/suicide, that she has "done her work". Her work will never be done. She will require constant maintainence for the rest of her life. She is an overlapper in her intimate relationships, often has 2-3 going at any given time.
I have learned early and fast and will not subject myself to the confusion and pain anylonger.
