I was dx with HPD about 2 years ago. I didn't really like the therapist, so I never went back. She also said I probably had other personality disorders in addition to HPD, but further testing would need to be done. We no longer have insurance, so going back to a therapist is no an option at this time. So for those of you that have dealt with this for a while what advice can you give to someone that for now has to start trying to 'get better' without proffesional help. Since being dx, I have made drastic changes in my life. Before, my husband could almost not tolerate my behaviour. I was mean and hateful almost all the time. I'm so lucky to have a man like him, because anyone else would have been gone long ago. I'm 26, been married for 8 years and have 2 children ages 9 and 2. So does anyone know of some websites that offer some advice or also does anyone know of any books that would be of some help? Thanks in advance for any info you can give.

Hi!!I see no one left you a reply..so I will.Im new here and not histrionic, altho I do have a sibling with HPD.I think just being aware of your actions and most importantly, reactions to various situations is helpful in all PDs.Being DXd is a good start, and making changes due to being aware is even better.Figure out your triggers, know them, and maked changges on how you cope with not so good situations.Google your DX,for its like all illnesses. You will find positive and negative info.Try to focus and read the positive stuff,as no one waants to be bombarded with negativity aznd you already know what you are dealing with. And like any dx..this is a part of who you are but it doesnt have to define you.You are a person who has alot to offer in this world.Just be aware at times of your triggers and how you react.

Hello TexasMomma and welcome to the HPD Forum

Most of the websites and literature out there is descriptive; i.e., "what is HPD?," "what are the signs and symptoms of HPD?," etc. (warning: some of this you could find triggering). In my opinion these are some good ones:

Sanctuary for The Abused
Histrionic Personality Disorder
http://abusesanctuary.blogspot.com/sear ... ersonality

Some good material, quoted from “The Hero’s Spouse”
See histrionic-personality/topic14023.html#p1038240

and of course our own HPD Forum (but in going back through past material, please be aware again there might be triggers).

I performed a Google search about HPD books and therapy. They look like good books, although expensive...

Overcoming Resistant Personality Disorders: A Personalized Psychotherapy Approach (Paperback)By (author) Theodore Millon, By (author) Seth Grossman

Moderating Severe Personality Disorders: A Personalized Psychotherapy Approach (Paperback)By (author) Theodore Millon, By (author) Seth Grossman

Schema Therapy (Paperback)By (author) Jeffrey E. Young, By (author) Janet S. Klosko, By (author) Marjorie E. Weishaar

Personality Guided Therapy (Wiley Series on Personality Processes) (Hardback)By (author) Theodore Millon

Resolving Difficult Clinical Syndromes: A Personalized Psychotherapy Approach (Paperback)By (author) Theodore Millon, By (author) Seth Grossman

You might also want to contact moderator Masquerade; according to her account she has lived both as an active HPD, but is now recovered.

Personally, if it were me, I would invest as much money as I could into professional therapy, because like most people I am not a person who can be 99% objective with myself (that is, I need an objective professional to bounce back at me what I am communicating).
Be tolerant of others, but true to yourself. In supporting you, I try to offer common sense. PM me if you need to.
