Help....What is my next move?

Postby JGCTX » Wed Jun 01, 2005 10:57 pm

Where to start. I am married to an identical twin, and her sister was diagnosed with HPD. She does not know she has it but her therapist told her husband. So now we all know she has it and she does not know. Her husband has known for over a year. Their therapist (which they no longer see due to her) told her husband that she was not ready to tell her about the disorder since she would deny it all.

The bottom line is she makes us all crazy. What should be do to confront this problem? Does anyone know of a way to enlighten someone with HPD to let them know they have it with out crushing them?

HELP!!!

i am being diagnosed by ohers as having HPd, i do have some traits that i believe are HPd but not all.
I am an attention seeker but not all the time, and believe am very needy and have lied compulsivly. This label is really crushing me for some reason and i cant handle it. I have had an anti social behavioural problem up until recently, but dont believe i am suffering from HPD. I have read about it and believe i border more with avoidance.

Hi
From what i gather, you should not be diagnosed by non-professionals.
It seems as if most personality disorders (or the people who have explained their dx's on here) have many overlapping traits from one pd to another.
Have you spoken to your doctor?
Have you seen a counsellor, psyciatrist or psycotherapist?
If you have problems, and you see your doctor or a counsellor, they should refer you if they see that a problem may exist.

Has this person(s) a real knowledge of you and the problems you face? How do they know about HPD? Are they aware of other pD's?
It is not right to label someone, and from what i have read on here from people who have been through mental health organisations and help, PD's are a tricky one.
Is there anyone on this thread a dx'd histronic who could respond?

i have only spoken to a doctor (well twice now) in the capacityof i have had an amazingly hard 2 years. I have had problems with all sorts of issues and problems but am seemingly strightening myself out with the help of my partner.
I agree about the dx bcause of how it makes one feel about themselves. Spmetimes these labels are damaging because once you go and read about them you realise there is no known cure at this point. A good example is an APD.
I don't believe the person(s) that have said this have ever met a HPD or no anything about this in the true sense of the word. Just what they read.
I have seen a councellor once, where the lady listened very carefully and asked many questions and then said that i would need to be refered to a psycotherapist. This in it's self scared me. I din't know what to think. It had been such a huge step for me to go to that meeting an open up about myself. I am not that good at opening up to others and telling them about myself. But i did it with the help of my partner. She was very supportive and i felt very safe.
This person does have a real knowledge of me but i feel no real knowledge of anti social personalities in any shape or form.

I understand that if this person can find a medium for m then they may feel that a relationship is easier to control. But, i believe they do not consider my feelings or the way they are really making me feel about me. I feel i am a normal person with issue's. Which person in today's society dosent.

Any answer and i would be grateful
