hi everyone. A friend of mine that lives in Manhattan, NY is having a serious problem with her oldest daughter. She is 22. From what it seems she has been holding things in for years. Slowly but surely her mother has been finding out what has been going on with her. Everything seemed ok, minus the on and off fueds with her mother, until she lost her job a couple of months ago. Slowly but surely she started to get more violent, more vocal-screaming and yelling, throwing things etc..The strange thing now is that she is talking about things that make no sense, she is claiming she is seeing people, hearing voices, thinks the house phone is tapped, thinks people are staring at her, following her etc...she has also been bringing up the devil, saying certain people are going to hell, she thinks certain people are dead when they are actually alive. She has called 911 a couple times and not much has been done, plus one trip into another city with her to bring her into another hospital for evaluation. They are saying nothing is wrong with her. Which she had to call 911 again earlier today, the police said it was some sort of domestic dispute. I gave her 2 numbers to also call today to see if she can talk to someone since obviously calling 911 for an ambulance doesn't seem to be working, one they did take her to a hospital but they released her shortly after she got there, claiming there were no papers for her,it is very upsetting and frustrating to see my best friend like this, as well as her daughter. Today she tried to take her out of the house to get some groceries, but as soon as they walked in, she started yelling and screaming at the top of her lungs that they needed to leave, people are staring at her and following her she told her mother, once they got back to the apt she started throwing things, breaking things, continuing the screaming, this is when she called 911 again. She told me she doesn't know what to do anymore, and she can't stay with her,she will loose her apartment, several people have already complained. The only thing i can think of is that she must be having a nervous breakdown, between all these things she has never spoken about, got off her chest and help for, then loosing her job her brain just couldn't take anymore, her mother a few years ago had a nervous breakdown, i tried for a few hours to get thru to her and nothing worked, finally called an ambulance, they kept her for a week, she is fine now, as anyone here experienced any of this or seen it in someone else?

Hi,

I've experienced this situation before - first hand - because i was in your friend's position. I get the feeling that she has been depressed for some time (your friend) and that she has never discussed it before to anyone, which is why there is so much anger in her now. Her mother - God love her - doesn't know how to handle the situation and is just making it worse. All of this must end though before someone does something 'silly'. Ideally, what should happen is that your friend goes to a doctor, or at least a counsellor at her place of work/study. Something MUST change though... ...the current cycle must be broken.

Yo'uve tried to open up to her about it, right?

Heh, what does that have to do with HPD? :|
"Man is by nature a social animal; an individual who is unsocial naturally and not accidentally is either beneath our notice or more than human. (...) Anyone who (...) does not partake of society is either a beast or a god."

Are you talking to me or the other person? Sometimes, I fail to even look at the forum that a thread is in. I generally only navigate to threads through the 'unanswered posts' link on the main forum index.
