To be clear, I wrote "->" meaning an arrow of thought, not a greater than character.

In terms of who appears to have the greater emotionally stability though, your order works I think, sans the AsPD types who screw up their lives (and others) when angry, or just because they couldn't keep their impulses under control.

Sorry, I didn't read it correctly (my mind excels at internalized cognition / analysis but underperforms in communication skills, so I'm naturally disinclined to properly both convey and absorb information).

When we say "defenses", probably what we really mean is "defenses against manipulation by appeal to their emotions"? So the BPDs have lowest defenses, probably because for people with quite high BPD traits, like myself (I'm a mix, cf my main post), it is so inherent in our thought process that manipulating others emotions would be so counterproductive for the group that we don't actively think about manipulating others and cannot really actively walk around constantly filtering interactions with others to dynamically adapt to emotional manipulation?
And so the AsPDs have the highest defenses (vs others appealing to their emotions), all the while not necessarily being the best at controlling their feelings? In computing terms, i.e. they have a good "firewall" but low internal stability?

In terms of "defenses against manipulation by appeal to their emotions" I have a reasonable understanding that it comes along the lines of what we said (if I understood correctly):

BPD (lowest) << HPD (moderate) < NPD (slightly higher) < AsPD (High)

My understanding comes a bit short however, when it comes to internal stability (I must also admit that I'm poorly versed on AsPD). My very wild guess would be something like:

HPD < AsPD < BPD ~ NPD

We'd have to define what "stability" is about though. "Consistent Personality" / "Stable Emotions" / "Ability to Function Properly in Isolation" / ... ?

The topic is interesting to me as I feel I lack proper understanding of how stable individuals are inside in each PD group. I'm also not sure I really understand at all the internal dynamics of AsPDIs.

The definition of cluster B disorders/personalities starts with being characterized by being very emotional, or erratic. The definition doesn't explain why, just that is the visible trait that is common.

Defenses maybe wasn't the best word, and I couldn't think of anything more descriptive, but to make a generalization ... I just meant that in thinking about the cluster B types, of those on one end of the scale are the BPD types, they tend to visibly me the most emotional/erratic, that they tend to have the least internal coping mechanisms to suppress those feelings.

Personally I find AsPD types more difficult to understand. It's even hard to know if those who commit violent crimes are doing it out of anger, boredom, an amoral sense of what differences doe it make, some other reason. Still it makes sense that the professionals would just sort that type of behavior as erratic, without having to answer the question what is behind it.

Anyway I know there have been several discussions over the years here, is NPD and HPD more similar, or different. There is never any clear answer other than there are similarities and differences. lol

Personally I believe most of the differences just come down to what people are rewarded for. If you are a male, societies tend to reward certain types of personalities and behavior. If you are female, likewise, you'll be rewarded for some behaviors more than others. We people tend to take the path of least resistance in life, and so we tend to go with what works. Otherwise I see a lot in common (e.g., a high need for validation from others). Just how they go about it varies.
