Hey JoseMaria,

You will likely get an answer if you ask on SOF&F.

For the real answer though, the question to ask is where does the idealization come from? Once that is clearer, it also becomes clear that devaluation follows, because idealization is based on an emotional high in the moment, but that high is unsustainable.

I'll take the question, it concerns HPD guys after all, they might put the info to good use.

XDude you're right in saying that devaluation & idealization goes hand in hand, but it doesn't quite constitute a cause.
What causes the devaluation is the same as what causes narcissistic or borderline devaluation: the breakage of the fantasy projected on a person (the fantasy of having their needs perfectly met).

Simply put, devaluation is the same thing as a non-disordered person's disappointment in other people but way way amplified, which make it hard for the disordered person to exert some control over it.

Hey MalvaBlue,

I added some more thoughts after Jose reposted in SOF&F, but yes agree. The subtleties are, for all the same reasons we with cluster B personalities are disappointed to an extreme (it's bound to happen sooner or later), we may initially over value to an extreme.

The additional part I added in SOF&F, was to suggest Jose focus on what is going on with him that the initial over valuation was so appealing (feels like truth) in the first place. Understanding this can help both understanding what did happen, and avoid it going forward.
