HPDs and animals

Just wondering if any of your HPDs had childlike fixations on animals. I think mine saw them as cartoon characters. ("Hallo Mr Hamster! Mr. Hamster should be my friend! Did you see that, Mr Hamster was looking at ME!") and so on. It was somewhat endearing, but a little creepy at the same time. She had three cats when I met her, and was planning on getting several dogs. She would practically harass other dog owners she passed on the street. The very fist time I realized something was 'off' with her, I think on our third date, was when she interrupted a serious conversation mid-sentence to cross the street in order to meet a dog. She talked loudly in goofy dog voice and made both me and the owner uncomfortable...and this would repeat itself endlessly over the years. It was like a switch went off and she was 5 years old.

I'm an animal lover myself, so I could understand, but it was always like watching "Grizzly Man" (If anyone's seen that what personality disorder would you ascribe to him?)

Okay this one cracks me up! My HPD sister-in-law got a dog from her family, that had been left at the side of the road. She brought him home, knowing that my brother, her husband, didn't want a dog. But that's doesn't matter does it - it's all about what the HPD person wants. ANYWAY, she brought the dog home, had already named it....using my brother's first name as it's middle name. So she was constantly it, like when your a little kid and your naughty and your mom yells your full name. It drives my brother NUTS!

Of course, the dog was just one more thing that she was able to use to be the center of attention. According to her, it surely would have died had she not taken it in. It was covered in head to toe with ticks - you have NEVER seen so many ticks - THOUSANDS! And of course it's not just any dog breed, it's a rare beagle blue tick. And how lucky she was to get such a rare dog for free!! They have no money, but she was telling us she takes the dog to get groomed and it's nails painted...it's a HUNTING dog for god's sake!!

She went on and on abotu this dog for months and now it basically stays outside and she doesn't mention it. I suppose now that it's grown up the novelty has worn off.

Anyway, just had to comment ;)

Mine was a book example of an animal lover, preferably cats. Both cats she had were either ran over by a car or they disappeared. She also did not hesitate to spend half of her paycheque to donate cash for neutering new born kittens. The only pets that survived were the once she did not look after. She really liked all those animals, they were allowed to sleep in her bed, etc. they were spoiled. I guess somehow she was missing something important, the sense of accountability for them……

Did you HPD screaming while driving with you and unexpectedly either a pet or any tiny wild animal crossed the road and she was yelling “do not kill this unfortunate creature?” (Yes, better bum your vehicle into a tree or ditch it……..). First, at the beginning, I considered such a behaviour as caring, but latter it was annoying, kind of exaggerating the real situation.

She also used to "assign" to those poor creature special abilities she believed they have, despite they were just a simple "street mix" she just wanted to have them home and rescue them.........It was nice from her, but I was not prepared for such a rescue mission.

Mine is quite the opposite. I was always pointing out animals that we would see while driving, like deer or wild turkeys. He only noticed them if they were in danger of coming on to the road in front of us. He completely ignored people's pets. He did mention a dog that his ex-girlfriend owned, and spoke fondly of it - but what he liked about the dog was that it would do what he told it to - e.g., stay in one spot for hours if he told it to. Oddly enough, though, I think he did mention crying when the dog died.
