Get Rid of HPD

Postby sharonthomas27 » Thu Oct 13, 2016 8:39 am

Hi. I am 100% sure that I have HPD even though I have never been formally diagnosed. I don't want to be HPD. I've read some pretty bad stuff about HPDs and how we mess up other people's lives. About how we don't really care about most people unless it benefits us. And now that I look at it those statements are pretty spot on, even though I wish they weren't. My question is: is there ANY way to get rid of HPD? I know that may sound like a crazy question but I want to know. I have a therapist but I would never tell anyone about this. And I'm gonna stop seeing her anyway. I'm not saying this for attention (if you think I am, that's your problem) but there have been times when I've thought of ending it because that seems like the only thing I can do. I'm Christian and was taught that if you do that you go to hell, so I won't be taking that avenue. But that's how serious this is to me. There are so many things wrong with me that I don't know if there's any remedy. Please let me know if there's a way to fix this that doesn't involve telling others about it. Thanks.

Doubtful it can be "cured" however a licensed professional can at least help guide one towards normality.

Hi Sharon,

I think the fact that you are able to introspect is extremely good, a necessary first step to overcome the issues that are due to the disorder (assuming you have it).

Let me say, however, that having a therapist is necessary to overcome these issues, even though not every therapist is good in tackling this disorder effectively. Feel free to change her, if you deem so.

Another thing I can suggest you is to inform yourself about the disorder as much as possible (I.e., know your enemy!)...about HPD, you may want to read these informative documents:

Feel free to share your story, it would be interesting to know you better!

Hi sharon,

I am curious what you mean by 'get rid of'. The reason to ask is that sometimes we fail to achieve what we want to achieve because our goal is poorly defined, or unrealistic, so we set ourselves up to fail.
