Hi all and thanks in advance. I have been having serious marriage issues caused by my want of attention and have been reading up on HPD to some length and i fit all the criteria its almost like a life story of mine. I dearly love my wife and i want to do all it takes to sort this behaviour out and after searching for help on the issue this is where i am. Please any advice would be amazing and also how to explain HPD to a NON as she is sceptical at best. thanks again for reading and hope you can help - Alex

Why dont you try therapy or counselling?

Perhaps you could give couples therapy a chance, that would be the ideal setting to introduce your wife to the disorder; also, it would allow you - little by little - to acquire the tools necessary to recognize and handle the issues caused by the disorder.

Anyway, the fact that you have enough introspection to see your issues is an extremely good sign! :D
Indeed, many HPD sufferers don't recognize (or deny) to have issues, and tackle them appropriately.

PS: If you're interested, these are 2 interesting documents about HPD:

http://www.universitypsychiatry.com/cli ... _PICPs.pdf
http://maretwebproject.com/users/docs/histrionic.pdf

Particularly interesting in the document of maret is the concept of transitioning from the disorder to a (healthy) personality style, which basically means the preservation of the positive qualities of your personality.
