Not all Histrionics are Promiscuous ?

Postby Idiopodivny » Mon Mar 21, 2016 6:49 am

I'm confused because I fit all the criteria, its just I don't seek out attention in sexual ways. I actually don't like to talk about sex to other people as I'm very private about that. I seek out attention by doing crazy things that no one sees coming. Such as faking illness (mental & physical) or pretending to be possessed or a witch, catfishing, etc. just anything thats gonna make me stand out from the crowd and gain attention.

Hey Idiopodivny,

My personal understanding is that the criteria for HPD lists being sexually provocative, but there is nothing written about being promiscuous, and that it's more about a means to an end (i.e., being provocative is a way to draw attention) than it is about sex for some people with HPD.

Well yeah, I worry about my appearance often but it's not in a provocative way to get attention.

Hysteria is linkened to repressed sexuality.

I guess you have a point. I am a male and I'm attracted to other men but I repress those feelings because I don't want to feel guily or shamed by friends and family. Are you saying this could be linked to Histrionic Personality Disorder?

My understanding is that female Histrionics are more likely to use their physical appearance and sexual seduction to get attention.

HPD in men might manifest in a different way and Histrionic men might find other ways to get their "supply."
