Childlike Speech pattern

Postby Wasabi5050 » Mon Jul 27, 2015 11:22 pm

Hi,
I am a non HPD. I had a coworker who, when excited, would use a childlike 6 yo girl voice. This was quite freaky coming out of the mouth of a 42 year old woman. Is this a common manifestation of HPD or is it more BPD? Just curious.
Thanks

She was also very appearance focused with seductive clothing and always trying to be the center of attention. Flirting with the boss, constantly talking about herself, and being too invasive into other people's business. She was physically attractive but only because that's all she focused on at all times. She was also not very intelligent at all but tried to act like she was.

I think all you are going to get here is personal experiences. That behavior is not really mentioned in the diagnostic criteria, nor does it match my own experience with HPD, or anything I've read. Statistics on questions like this are going to be hard to come by anyway.

If I was to make a wild guess, the other behaviors you wrote about are a closer match for the diagnostic criteria, and this specific behavior is probably a habit she picked up along the way. Also guessing, but habits sometimes stick because either a.) few people if any want to point out the habit, or b.) encourage it, or c.) both.

It wouldn't be a big shocker to note that some males find it attractive when females act helpless, child like, etc, so perhaps she has received enough encouragement that the habit stuck.

I've met a handful of people in life who revert to baby/child talk. I personally find it very annoying when adults revert to childlike speech. The reasons why... that's more difficult to explain. ;)

Not in my case; on the countrary, my ex-gf could use a very deep, theatrical voice to impress the audience :D

Thanks. Her speech was very annoying and high pitched like an excited child and baby talking. My boss and I used to turn to each other and shake our heads because we'd never seen this type of behavior before. She was 42 but into princess crap and unicorns and things all had to be pink and cutesy. She had all the other marks of HPD but this one threw me. It happened when she would get excited and start being the center of attention and flirty. Jesus...I'm so glad I don't work with her anymore but never in my career had I ever seen this.

These are attention-seeking behaviours...pretty normal stuff for HPDs, absolutely not normal for people who doesn't know the matter :)

About 3 years ago I was at the pharmacy and there was a girl about 25-28. When I heard her voice I did a double take because she sounded like a 6-year-old. It didn't match her appearance. My first thought was HPD.

But, a few minutes later her mother showed up, and sounded the *exact* same way. They both seemed normal in every other way. I assumed it was normal and genetic.

What would the alternative be? The mother was histrionic and the daughter learned it? They didn't seem odd or disordered in any other way. If it was just a trait (not a full-blown disorder) it seems they would have noticed it (looking in the mirror at each other).

Identical to my lady friend in every aspect, frightening at 36 years old. Even had a "princess" cup and a pink decorated works try.
