My wife is emotionally upset and usually she's real tough. We had to put our cat to sleep at the vet today after a long healthy life. I really don't understand how people get so connected to animals or to comfort her under the circumstances, but tried.

Besides, I don't love pets, especially dogs (thank god we don't have any). Thinking about the cat's maintenance ( I won't miss), especially the long black hair everywhere. Guess there's a silver lining somewhat for me, not to sound harsh. The healing process might take some time for my wife tho, but she stated something about doing it on her own.

I am very emotional when I loose a pet.
They are part of the family, your wife probably misses your cat's affection, alot of people grieve, I grieve over every single animal I've lost, and right now I still miss the one I lost a few months ago...

Are you really into having pet's or is it more your wife?

Perhaps you understand that the cat had to be put down for a reason, and instead of letting it suffer this was the best choice so you aren't as affected as your wife is...

The fact that you aren't an animal person explains why it doesn't effect you....

It is a healing process, it will slowly get better for her, she misses her little companion, in time she wont hurt so much.

Just be patient.
I am schizoid, and am generally aloof towards the deaths of humans, but am deeply moved by the loss of my pets. In order to have empathy for those who are grieving, whether it is a human or a pet, I consider the grief relevant whatever the species.
