Teenage Depression

Postby Blueberries_0900 » Fri Jun 22, 2012 12:44 pm

Hi,

I know that I'm supposed to talk about my problems in public in this forum but..., can I please talk to someone about my problems on PM?

I came here because I thought you guys are qualified to help me out. Some of you might be therapists or psychologists.

I didn't know where to post this. I mean, I've got a lot of problems ...

I REALLY want to talk to somebody in private. Preferably a moderator or an admin. Someone who can help me.

The reason why I'm here now is because..., well, I really think my situation right now is really serious. I've been thinking about committing suicide for awhile. I haven't yet attempt to do it, but I've been trying to find ways to go about doing it.

Can someone please contact me on PM?

Hi. I'm sorry that you're feeling this way. It sounds as if you have a lot going on right now.

This is a peer support forum, and I'm really, really sorry, but we don't offer therapy or psychotherapy here. It wouldn't be safe or ethical for us to to do so.

Please, if you're feeling suicidal, you'll need to speak to a professional, and in an emergency go to the local emergency room at your hospital.

We offer each other friendship and peer support here, which can help a person feel less alone, but we can't offer therapy.

Please keep safe, and speak to a professional, your doctor, or get yourself to the hospital urgently.

Hi - And welcome to our forum.

I have to reiterate what Masq has said, that no one is here in a professional capacity, so we cannot give you therapy. But we can offer peer support and a place where you can talk and have people listen and understand.

Do you have a therapist? If not, I would really recommend one, as they can help immensely with depression and they can help you sort out what's going on and give you the professional support you need. Do your parents know about your feelings, or any friends? It's important to have people that you can confide in - being alone with these feelings is really tough, letting someone know can take some of the burden off. But I can't stress enough how beneficial it would be to get a therapist or see some sort of mental health professional. Your parents can help you get one. (I'm assuming you're a teen.)

If you feel as though you are going to act on the suicidal thoughts, you should go to the hospital immediately or call for an ambulance. Your safety is the top priority. You can get help with this, so don't give up.

Feel free to keep talking here about your feelings or what's happening in your life. We will listen.

Super hugs.

- EGD.

No, unfortunately for me, I don't go to a therapist. I'm 18 years old. My problems first started when I was 13 years old.

Masquerade, I've sent you two PMs but it seems one of them is still in my outbox. I'm not sure if you received it or not.

Hi. Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. I haven't been too well and was away from the board. I have read the PMs now and sent you a reply.

I tried to reply back to all you guys on PM but my messages are all still in my outbox. My messages haven't been sent yet.

I'd rather chat in private but it seems that it's much more easier to post things over here.

I decided to go to a therapist..., but I have doubts about going...

Would the therapist mind if I don't tell my parents that I'm seeking help? Does she have to get my parent's permission in order to help me? I'm eighteen but the age of majority is 21 here.

I feel like I want to get therapy but I think I'll have a really hard time expressing myself to my therapist. I think I'll have a hard time expressing myself to her about how I feel...

I have a hard time talking about certain things in person. Can I send her emails or something if I can't talk to her about a particular thing in person?

There are somethings that I have a hard time talking to someone about in person.

I'll try to find the money necessary to pay her fees. I don't want my family to know that I'm seeking help.

Edit: I sent an email to my soon-to-be therapist asking her if my parent's permission is needed in order for her to help me.

What does it mean when your PMs are in your outbox folder...? Does it mean that it hasn't been sent already?

If it means that it has already been sent but it hasn't been read yet, then I'm sorry for being so impatient and boorish. I don't mean to. I thought that when you see your messages in your outbox it means that there's an error or something when the PM was first sent. I think I might be wrong on that one.

I'm really sorry if I sound pretty rude and self-centered in my previous post. I just didn't know what outbox is... I'm new here.

... I know all you guys have lives of your own and problems that you need to fix. Please take as much time as you want to post back. I'm just really thankful that I have people that I can talk to about my problems...

Hi. If a message is in the outbox it means that they haven't been opened yet. Sometimes it can take some time for us to get them, but we will read them. I've written to you, and you can talk to me, okay? I may not be able to do anything practically that will alter your situation, but at least you know someone is listening. I apologise for the delay. I haven't been too well for the past couple of days, but I'm feeling a bit better now and can reply to you etc.

We can't take the place of therapy here, but we can offer peer support. I know it's difficult for you to open up about your issues on the public forum, but even if you just post on here to say that you're depressed, people will hear you. It's a small comfort, I know, but I hope it will make you feel less alone.
