I am soooooo sleeeeepy. AND most anxious in the morning?

Postby chick_en » Mon Mar 12, 2012 2:56 pm

Is this a typical symptom with GAD?

I feel like I could just lay down and sleep anywhere. Thing is I've been fighting off a bout of panic attacks for the past week, so I don't want to do anything to energize myself for the fear that I may trigger another panic attack. I've taken celexa in the past, and I just started taking it again. I'm on my 3rd dose. My panic feelings are getting a little better each day, but I definately still feel them. I imagine it will be a few more days before I feel closer to normal. In the meantime, I just feel soooooo sleeeeepy. I am basically passing out by like 9/10 but then I'm not sleeping through the night and feel jittery and anxious when I wake up. I almost feel startled awake. Also, in the morning is the worst for me because that is when I feel most jittery, heart racing, chest tightness and mildly achy, panicky. Ugh! Anyone else experience this?

I HATE how parallized anxiety makes me feel at times! Ugh! :(

Hi, chick_en! Maybe it's the meds? You could ask your doctor. Things get better with time though, the meds start to work properly after a while.

I've also been going through a lot of anxiety and some panic over the last 6 months and also for me, its worse in the morning. I wake up and its like I have a feeling of dread in the pit of my stomach, its worse if I have had bad dreams. Sometimes I lay awake and my thoughts will imagine all kinds of frightening things, so I guess that makes it worse, for some reason, when I first wake up, it doesn't occur to me to just get up, ignore my thoughts and do something pleasant :?

I used to be on Lexapro, for quite a few years when I was in an abusive marriage, it took me a year to withdraw from that, (the meds) so I really don't want to start taking meds again, but I might have to. But I'm going though a major change at the moment, with some stress, so I'm hoping its related to that and will settle down when my situation resolves in a few months.

I agree that the tiredness might be caused by the meds, that's a common initial side effect, it usually wears off though, once your body gets used to the new levels of brain chemicals.

Try and give it a bit more time and keep reminding yourself that the medication will work soon, it just needs to build up in your body.

Sometimes deep breathing, meditation and exercise can help some people. I should probably be telling that to myself :)

I hope you feel better soon.
