Do you live in the United States? Or America? Or UK What I am going to put down is my own view point... which means it scewed.

It has everything to do with you. The religious and social overtones of what your parents are telling you can not be applied to you. Not in another country. How can you not see the outside world around you? To move into a specific area in the united states... shows so many culture clashes, it's hard to believe that others don't see it. Even your parents. This means, when your parents moved here they should have understood these things would happen. It's not your fault!

If your hair is long and in a turban... it is not wrong..? for you are doing it for a reason? You could be growing your hair for GOD or for some reason, which is very good... but, under the norms of USA it would be hard.

It sounds like there is three things happening:
1. Your own views about your hair
2. Your parents cultural views on your hair
3. The views of hair in the USA...

1. You see your view of your hair long and in a turbin as something that will hold you back from what you want to succeed in
2. Your afraid your parents see releigious overtones greater than your ambitions
3. You live in the USA... You want to be accepted in USA... for your own emotional health

First, do your parents know where you live? Do they know the cultural norms? I think they do. They came here. They must know what's happening... If they are here... what's the reason they camw. GOOD QUESTION. Something brought them here. I am not putting words in your mouth, but, if it has anything to do with freedom, you now have a case.

So, let's leave that for now... they must understand the cultural norms of what men look like in USA

The last is the religious significance to having the turban and long hair...

Many things are going on... the middle east conflict... acceptance in a USA environment. Your own parents viewpoints.

But it does all come down to you... if you think about it. You BARE it all! You deal with it. You have to live with it. I can see the viscious triangle... between you and everything else.

But one thing is for certain and you can't argue with it. It's all funneling down to you. Everything is happening to you. And, they brought you here inthis country for a reason... the cultural norm of USA short hair might be not applying to them, but as long as they brought you here, your parents have to look at you from the USA/UK culture. They brought you here... they have top deal with it. They should be thinking about this stuff or already thought of it when you moved! In a way it's their problem. Not yours!

It's not easy... your parents cultural and religious values against your USA/UK ideas that you have now.

Personally. I hate saying this... and please don't just do this becasue I say it's oK. I think your parentsa should have anticipated this thoroughly, before you were brought here. YOU should do what you want!

I must put in a wrench...I have to so you see that I am really am trying to help.

When I was in college their was a guy who wore a turban. He got through college. I even had chance to see it long and was amazed. I thought it was cool. That is my wrench.

I would recommend you look at these three aspects.

1. Family tradition.
2.

Never been to Asia. I wonder what it's like... just TV stuff I see.

But, two things come to mind

Two hair styles:

The traditional long hair.
The conservative route of western culture.

I guess the most important thing, (and this is from a guy that shaves his head all the time.) FIGURE THAT. That you might want to weight this like a scale. On one side is conformance to tradition the other non-comformity.

Think of it as a scale. Long hair on one side and short hair on the other. Gather all the positives of having long hair in your turbin. Then, weigh the other western cultural norm. When the balance reaches one or the other, find the aspect that made the strongest impact. Write it down. Then, on a card: put this:

I am going to do this:

THen leave it alone for a whaile. Remember, the answer is one the card. So, now you can take that welcome break from this fear. Your answer is on that card.

Why do this?

This will give you time to just stop worrying about it. You're free. NO more worry there, becasue you have the answer on the index card.

You have gone through this so many times. the ins and outs of tradition and western socialogy... that it can drive you crazy... so write it down. Put it somewhere out of site... and, try to stop worrying.

Your next question? If I am giving advice can I do it? No. It's complicated. I keep losing the dam card with all the other jusnk around me. But it can help. The point is to come back to it when your mind is calm and then, look at the pros and cons... the better for you... then make the decision... :)
