Anyone else - Teeth grinding problem?

Postby InvisibleGhost » Fri Jul 29, 2011 8:26 am

Im just curious. I have filings along my bottom gum lines from teeth grinding. Been doing it for 11yrs now, that I know of. It was the dentist that told me this erosion is from grinding, and the grinding even wakes me up sometimes. I will wake up and my teeth are heavily presssed together. I have even woke up while grinding. He, explained to me it's like a ton (or something) weight that is grinding when the jaw is locked like this, and it damages the teeth at the gum line from moving them back and forth.
He did tell me to buy a guard, and I use it sometimes, but mostly I can't be bothered wearing it.

Does anyone else have this problem?

I already know it's from my anxiety, but I'm just wondering if I am the only one

No, you're not the only one. I didn't realise I was doing it until I got braces put on my teeth last year. When they are still sore from being adjusted, grinding my teeth will wake me up in the middle of the night- I never realised I did it so much, but I can see how my teeth are worn in spots from grinding them. I tend to clench my jaw a lot too. The more stressed and anxious I am, the more I do it.

thanks for answering. it kills, i really hate it. yea, it only happens when Im anxious too. Yes, my jaw also is tight from it, and when i eat sometimes, my jaw pops. I think that is from the grinding too.

sometimes teeth grinding is a side effect from a particular med, you should let your psychiatrist know

i've been off meds for 6 years. Xanax and klonopin was made for me, but I am too scared to take them because of side effects like what you said. I dont need any more issues to what I got already. The teeth grining is 'au natural'
Plus I binge drink a lot, and once overdosed and went to hospital from this, so I don't want that to happen again, because I won't recover from it if it does

Whatever your klonopin AND xanax???? together?? hmm....anyways, whatever their doses are cut them in half or even by 3 or 4, take lower doses than prescribed and see if it helps...baby klonopins do the trick for me quite nicely...although, obviously, our circumstances are different

I used to grind my teeth too, and clench all the friggin time!! I bought a silly silicone mouth guard and used it for a bit. Seems to have spontaneously stopped, cuz I don't think I do it anymore

I used to have a teeth grinding problem, but it went away after working
with my therapist. It felt like my jaw was going to explode it was so sore,
so I understand the need to do something about it- whatever you do to treat it.
It turned out that when I treated the issues causing my anxiety
my health improved overall. If it might be a stress/anxiety/trauma issue therapy
might help. There are probably loads of reasons why people end up grinding
their teeth.
