One is not a symptom of the other, but they are interconnected.
Dsyregulation and over stimulation of the amygdala increases a general sense of fear and the brain then seeks to find a cause so that it can deal with it. The brain can magnify, or in extreme cases invent threat or danger so that small irritations appear to be life threatening in order to make sense of the signals it is receiving from the amygdala.
Just think of it as an evolutionary adaptation that hasn't caught up yet with our current "safer" environment.

Yeah, it is connected only when your anxiety is extremely high it may happen. You maybe GAD with Psychotic Symptoms. Make sure you get diagnose properly. You will have to take the MMPI-II.
