? for you guys

Postby c1333 » Tue Mar 29, 2011 7:14 am

Hey guys, Im new here and this is my first post. The only place I could find anything similar to my problem was here so ill ask you guys. A couple months ago i woke up with a very cloudy mind, to the point where i feel completely disoriented everyday. I feel dissociated all day and the feeling is similar to that of being intoxicated on marijuana, which i do not do regularly (I do smoke on occasion but have not for about a year). I feel almost like I have a different perception of the world around me, like I am in a fog or a dream almost. I feel like things are going on around me and am never "In The Moment" if you will. I feel like my short term memory is almost non existent as well as my ability to concentrate. The whole situation is very disheartening due to the fact that I am a college student and need to be able to think clearly to do well in school. I dont seem to suffer from anxiety or depression although doctors seem to think i do? I have tried taking two different anti depressents for months now to see if it helps with the fogginess but unfortunately it doesn't. I am planning on seeing a psychiatrist next week for some insight on the situation. My mother was diagnosed with schizophrenia 11 years ago which leaves me with a much higher risk for developing the disease. I would love to hear your thoughts on this and get some insight on what i need to do. Sorry for the long post I am just in need of some answers
Thanks,
C

Hey,

Schizophrenia usually develops in the early 20s, so if you are around that age, then it's a possibility that what you have is schizophrenia. I also want to ask you if things have been bad every day since that one morning when you woke up with a 'cloudy' mind?; or have some been bad while others worse? You make it seem as if the problem has persisted constantly, but I imagine otherwise...? What else... have you altered your diet? If you do silly things like starve yourself, then your body and mind will start rebelling against you, and you'll feel tired and unable to think clearly. Being in college, your brain needs a lot of energy

Thanks for the reply chucky. I'm 20 years old so it could be a possibility although I don't suffer from common symptoms such as seeing or hearing things. I also don't have delusions. I have had a decrease in appetite lately and have lost a lot of weight. I also have wisdom teeth coming in that are contributing to the dizzy type feelingu. It could very likely be the decrease in calories or may be something else. The cloudy mind has remained the same for the past two months and has not let up.

Hmm, a lot of 'bad' things can come if our diet is poor. Perhaps try to eat a bit more...? Even try to drink some more juice drinks if you don't want to eat solid food. See if you notice any difference. Me? - I love apple juice and pineapple juice.

I can actually relate to how you feel. I don't know about feeling like this all of the time, but for the good majority of the time I do. From what I've researched on my own, it could be a condition called 'brain fog'.

Here is an extensive article about the different types of brain fog:

I don't exactly think you have an anxiety condition. If you're not experienced panic attacks or troubled thoughts, etc. If you were, then I'd assume it would be something like depersonalization, a common foe of those stricken with anxieties.

Let me know what your psychiatrist says. I'm interested to know what it is exactly.
