Hi All
I have been fortunate to work as a small time stuntperformer but as I am getting a few grey hairs I am not working as much. My issue is this... I suffer from social anxiety disorder which I has not affected me much as most action scenes you can look "excitable and tense". I have recently started persuing my other passion which is acting which is ironic as I have SAD..I blame my parents as my mom is an extrovert and my dad an introvert so Im literally 50/50 personality..
I have a typical cop look and am starting to get good opportunities, my acting is ok, yet my anxiety is the problem. I have experimented with Ashwaghanda and a few nootropics, Aniracetam being the best. The issue is Ani can make me a bit to relaxed. I have tried some Sulbutiamine with the Ani to keep me from being too chilled on camera.
I have a big casting coming up soon and would like to know if there is anything else I can take that will help me alleviate my anxiety without looking sedated ? I also take dmae or Acetyl l carnitine for focus.
Would a doc be able to prescribe me something that will take away "the self consious factor" that occasionally creeps up on me as I feel this is my biggest hurdle into the acting world ? Any input would be appreciated.

I think one of the fundamental problems is that you have this one particular audition and you're already worrying about it.
Rather than medication, I would try exposure therapy in the long term.
I'm sure you can act already, but join an acting group where you informally go up in front of a crowd all the time. Get up on stage as much as you possibly can. Stay up there and own the stage, and let yourself habituate to it. When class is over, sit on that stage and chat to friends. I'm certain, over time, it will feel like you're in your own living room.
Hopefully being exposed to these types of situations more and more often and habituating to them, then one particular audition won't be a cause for worry because you will have practically lived in front of an audience for a while.
Does that make sense?

Hi Kel
Thanks for your tip. In my spare time I have been spending more time running lines from random scenes and have asked my fellow workers at my part-time job to film me. I would say things have improved my confidence a bit..
The big stage being the film set is pretty hectic when you get there and you realize that everyone there is there "for you" and its up to you to appear calm and composed, which is much harder than preparing to take a squib(bullet hit).
I will keep working at my composure under pressure, I guess my parts will more than likely be slightly serious characters which might hide my tension as part of the performance. I have also tried *mod edit* if anyone else seeks a settled (not sedated) mind.
all the best, anyone else with extra tips are welcome to share..
regards Steve

Reason: do not recommend that other member try specific medications please.. only their doctor can do that safely.
