Anxiety Attack

Postby anxietyneworleans » Tue Nov 22, 2016 8:06 pm

I have been having anxiety attacks for the last couple of months. I get these symptoms but each time its different: Sudden overwhelming fear, Trembling, Shortness of breath, Sense of choking, Nausea, Dizziness, Numbness or tingling in the limbs or entire body, Chills or hot flushes, etc.

I am on 100 mg of Zoloft per day. Seems to be working but last couple days out of no where the anxiety attacks have come back.

The breathing techniques dont help.

Can anyone offer ideas on how to stop the attacks. Sometimes they last a few minutes to 30 minutes.

I suffer from the same thing. One thing that did help is to not try and run from it. That only seemed to make it worse. What I do know is acknowledge the anxiety or panic and then continue with abdominal breathing not the typical chest breathing. It's much more affective. when I let anxietyrun its course, I remind myself that it will end and it will not kill me.
I also listen to some really good relaxingmeditative talks using my iPhone and earbuds . They help me get a different perspective about anxiety.

Dear anxietyneworleans:

Could be the Zoloft. When I took Zoloft, i took it in the morning because it has been reported to be agitating. And I was given a tranquilizer to counter the agitating affect of Zoloft. Later on, when I changed psychiatrist, i was put on another SSRI, a less known one, called Luvox. That i took before bed time because it has a drowsing, none agitating/ stimulating affect that Zoloft has.

Breathing techniques don't help for me either. What I do find effective is when having an anxiety attack is sitting on a chair (if you have enough strength and feeling to) and putting your head between your knees and in that position just kind of let it ride. And of course just remember you're not going to die
