Refusing to believe my symptoms are due to anxiety?

Postby woodyfly » Mon Feb 15, 2016 4:30 am

Is refusing to believe that your physical symptoms are due to anxiety, a symptom of anxiety itself?

Doctors have told me that it's my anxiety but I refuse to believe it. I keep trying to think for new clues or the 'real answer'. Even when all the things point to anxiety, I don't really believe it. For example, let's say I believe for a moment that drinking tap water is causing the headaches. I'll drink tap water, I'll get a headache. This has happened with many other 'things I've tried'

Do you feel those physical symptoms when you're anxious? Do they go away when you're not anxious?

Dear woodyfly:

i didn't understand your example with drinking tap water. Can you explain it to me?

you asked if refusing to believe your symptoms are caused by anxiety is due to anxiety. I think that a whole lot is due to anxiety as fear (and I define anxiety as excess, ongoing fear) is a very powerful emotion and its reach within one's brain is widespread, affecting many, many of life's experiences.

When I get stressed or start thinking really hard about something, I'll get headaches. They go away if I can clear my mind somehow

I've had headaches for like 10 years, consistent. Doctors can't find the cause, there's nothing wrong on paper at all so I keep trying to find solutions myself. Often i'll come across something that I think might be the cause, i'll be like "this is why I'm getting headaches! Let me try this again to see if my headaches get worse"

For example, I tried going gluten free. Right away I was like "I knew this! I ate some bread and now my headache is worse!, it has to be gluten". So I cut off gluten but the headaches eventually returned. This phenomenon has occurred many times. The most recent one being tap water. I was thinking that the fluoride must be poisoning me! I cut it out and felt good. I tried drinking water with fluoride and got a headache, I told myself it must be the fluoride!

Dear woodfly:

Too bad you experience headaches for so long. My physical symptoms besides the neurological Tourette Syndrome (motor and vocal tics), OCD and such, is great intestinal discomfort that has kept me up at nights many times and feels uncomfortable so often, right now included.

Tap water, hopefully it is the flauride, that would be an easy solution. I sure hope so. Otherwise, calm... I always say to myself that if I experience more calm, my intestinal problems will improve and sometimes they do.

take care of yourself the best you can!
