Yep, I have it on prescription.
I've been back n forth to my doc for years with anxiety and depression. I've had pretty much most SSRIs, with varying degrees of success. I've had talk therapy too.
After many years suffering, I realised that my anxiety is the true root cause of my issues. But docs insist SSRIs have anti anxiety effects, but I never could kill the physical symptoms anxiety caused.
Usually, when all else fails, they try beta blockers. But alas, being asthmatic this wasn't an option (they depress your breathing, which is normally ok, but not recommended in asthmatics).
So one day, when visiting the doctors, I was seen by a locum. He suggested lyrica. It is quite expensive, hence why my normal doc hasn't suggested it! I'm in the UK, so meds are subsidized.
The first few days you are really chilled. That effect lessens after a while. But it gives me enough chill effect to get out of the house and function. On a night time, it helps me sleep.
I am on a small dose, which hasn't been increased, but I'm okay with that.
It's not a magic bullet. I still have bad days and bouts of anxiety, but to me it's when taking.
It's prescribed for epilepsy and long term nerve pain. But it's also prescribed for anxiety too. It seems to maintain its efficacy too.
Hope this helps.
