What to do???

Postby Healing-with-time » Wed Aug 09, 2006 3:36 am

Hello. I have been suffering from really bad anxiety and panic attacks for the last year and some. I am seeing a psychologist and we are treating me with no meds. I see a huge improvement but I find it is getting harder to deal with now, I have less bad days now so I find when I do have a bad day I blow it all out of propotion and think everything is so bad which tends to make my situation at the time a lot worse. I had severe nausea everyday for 8 months straight and now I am up to being able to go a week without any nausea what so ever. Now I seem to have this worry that I am always going to be nauseated and thats how my bad days develope into very bad days because my anxiety goes crazy and brings on the nausea. Is there anyone who was similar to my situation?? does anyone know what I can do to manage my anxiety better? Just really tired of worrying all the time, I find it is stoping me from living my life and making my situation worse. Please any Ideas would be great thanks everyone

Hi hunny,

I completely can relate to your situation.
I have been dealing with GAD for 10+ yrs now.
Even though the anxiety is controlled, and I have meds and other techniques to help with the anxiety it does pop up from time to time.

There is always a trigger though, even if it's something that you feel couldn't have started the anxiety.

The way you are thinking with this is how anxiety makes you think, the WHAT IF's, thinking things are going to get bad and so forth.

There are things that can help you with your nausea.
Ginger the best possible solution for upset stomachs.
My doctor reccomended to me Ginger Root Capsules that you can purchase over the counter at your pharmacy, it's just ginger in a capsule, all natural. Whenever I felt really sick to the point of getting sick i'd take one, it helped my nausea. Same with gingerale and tea.

The best thing I could do to help my anxiety is to do a lot of positive self talk. Reminding myself that this will pass, do CBT and alot of deep breathing. I have notes around that if I'm really anxious about something, close to panic I will carry this with me and everytime I feel symptoms come on I'll pull out that piece of paper and read it so those positive affirmations are in my head.

It does wonders, but you need to keep doing it ALOT.

Stuff like this:

This is anxiety, this will pass.. I will be ok.
Yes it is uncomfortable right now, but I can deal with it, it'll pass.
I will be fine.
F it- I'm going to do what I want to do despite how I feel, it goes away, it always does.
etc. etc.

I have some lists of affirmations that i've used for anxiety, it did work.

That's my best tecnique is the positive self-talk, I can literally talk myself out of anxiety before it really comes.

The thing with anxiety is that you cannot stop doing the things that make you anxious, in doing that you are feeding the fear and making it worse everytime you try to do something.

Also the important thing to learn for anyone who suffers with this, as I've learned and have to constantly remind myself is that despite how you feel towards whatever it is that makes you anxious for example walking to the mailbox. Once you are at that mailbox getting the mail the anxious is gone, dissapears.

Always remember that no matter how bad you feel, once you are there, or facing whatever is causing it the anxiety vanishes.

Alot of anxiety sufferers forget about that, including me at times.

Meds helps me too- it doesn't rid me of the anxiety but it helps me with the symptoms, some symptoms.

Also self-help books on anxiety.
I have read two books that have done wonders, especially one.
If you are interested in a book or 2 let me know and i'll forward to you titles and authors.

I hope you are feeling better. I know how hard it is, worrying does make it worse, but that's anxiety, a symptom of it is constant worry, which really just feeds onto the fear..

Hang in there.

Hi
I think meds would help, some are too proud or stubborn to take them but remember, life is short
the nausea may be GERD from the anxiety, look up GERD on the net

sometimes a meal of food that takes a long time to digest can reduce nausea by keeping the stomach busy

GERD means: gastroesophageal reflux disease which
is a digestive disorder that affects the lower esophageal sphincter (LES) - the muscle connecting the esophagus with the stomach. Many people, including pregnant women, suffer from heartburn or acid indigestion caused by GERD. Doctors believe that some people suffer from GERD due to a condition called hiatal hernia. In most cases, heartburn can be relieved through diet and lifestyle changes; however, some people may require medication or surgery.

Here's a good site on this if you are up for reading it.
