Feeling left out.

Postby bextehude » Wed Nov 30, 2011 1:11 am

I just saw some pictures of my female friend participating in a musical at my university. Musicals tend to feature very feminine females and masculine males, from what I have seen.

Everyone on the set looks like they are having the time of their lives. I love performing music (I was in an orchestra for many years). But if I did try to act in one of those plays, I would have to pretend to be a female. I know I am a female but I feel like I am part man and part woman. I'd feel more comfortable acting the parts of the men, but if I asked for one of those parts it probably would be seen as weird behavior.

Does anybody relate to this? There are just some events that I feel I will never be able to participate in.

Do you feel this way beyond the acting? Like you would rather be male in real life? As you said, a lot of the female roles are overly gender stereotyped that would make a lot of women prefer to play the male. But that said, how do you feel about you, in your life for which you write the script?
