Yesterday was my first ever crossdressing in public. Boy am I relieved! It was both exciting and terrifying.
I wore a bra with water balloons under a tee shirt, and jeans. I took public transportation to Target and bought a feminine winter coat and hat and wore them home.
I've crossed the river.

Sam,
Heh, heh. So kind a reply! But it really was terrifying. It's done now though. The decision will always be much simpler in the future.
The coat is charcoal grey with a tinge of blue. Medium width collar. Small gathers at the place where the sleeves meet the body. An overlapped buttoning with three buttons, and a snap at the bottom. A waistband that ties in front. It's a winter maternity article by Liz Lange.
The hat is knit from two pieces--a flat round piece and a flat ring, connected at their outer edges. The hole for the head is five inches in diameter. The full diameter, flat, is ten inches. The color is turquoise. The brand is Merona.
The coat's sleeves are a little small on me, but it only seems small wearing it when I raise my arms. Not planning a lot of broad movements so I'm hoping it will be fine. Just to be sure I get the right fit I will go to Kohl's and see if I can find something that is a perfect fit. I have a month to return the coat to Target. Not sure though whether on return they will deem it unsaleable and only give me a gift card instead of a credit card refund. I wasn't planning any other purchases at Targets and my budget is tight.
