Sam,

Thank you for your even temperament. It's very helpful for me to know that someone like you is following my developing story. I hope I can in some way return the favor.

I have learned that hormones will have a risk of blood clotting, and since I have a medical issue with clotting--I take Warfarin for it--hormone therapy is ill-advised and so I won't be doing it. This in turn will prevent me from changing my id's and that was a major goal, so I have decided not to go ahead with becoming female.

It's very disappointing, but to go ahead would be almost certain suicide.

glenellyngirl,

Are you ok? This must be tough news. What are you going to do about the dressing, presenting as female. THis made you happy didn't it? will you continue?

On the other side what do you really need to do to change IDs? I assume you name etc. See I love my gender neutral name here - I sometimes wonder if I would change it, but I don't know the first thing about the laws surrounding name change.

Thinking of you,

It is simple to change your name by deed poll with a solicitor for a fee(I was fortunate - I got legal aid.) :)
Then you just write to the appropriate organisations to change your other documents. Must admit, I never did anything about my passport, as I don't travel abroad. Will cross that bridge as and if needed. :)

My understanding is that in Illinois, where I am, they won't change your id's just because you ask them to. You have to have a doctor approve hormones, then they will allow the change of records.

Thanks for your caring for me under these circumstances, Sam. It helps.

I am making the best of it. I went downtown to walk around and have a coffee, and to mull over the situation. That helped a lot. I have to take the attitude that I am glad now to know what my basic problem is, and that it's not soluble. Yea, it sucks, but better to adapt to it than to not have made the discovery and still live in a dream world.

It turned out that the clotting is really not a problem and I have been approved by a doctor for hormone therapy. I am stocking up on a full set of female clothing and am now crossdressing all the time, everywhere. I have changed the gender on my state IDs and use the female public restrooms. Today I got my ears pierced. I am so happy now!

You asked whether you would be allowed to use the female toilets, so let me answer that with a question. When was the last time you saw a female using the male toilets ?

Now recently I presume. When I started hormones my doctor gave me a letter saying I had GID and as entitled to use the female toilet.

Just as something to consider, many people who begin the process are forced off the homones because of liver problems. And in my part of the world, a fair percentage die at their own hand .....

If your thinking of changing genders as a way of getting acceptance then please rethink your situation ! Because aceptance is not often given to people who change their gender.

I might be able to get information about your area of the world, but promise you nothing so you won't be disappointed. However the clinic you went to should be able to provide current, and local, information. If not I would be surprised if you could not find most of the information you need at your local gay pub, or club, from someone who is further down the gender change road for want of a better word should you so desire.

Whybother,

I find so far that I am able to use the femail rest rooms quite normally.

I am not changing gender to be accepted. I agree that would be misguided. I am changing because my deepest sexual satisfaction thus far comes from using female clothing to masturbate, which turned into nude masturbation imaging myself as a female having sex with a male. This orientation I find spreading to all other areas of my orientation, and crossdressing seems to be bringing me a better relationship to food and dieting, I guess because it is more natural for me and I relax much more, leading to GI tract functioning improvements and decreased appetite, the previous appetite being somewhat over what was good for me.

Thanks for your thoughts.
