The military and GID

Postby hedgesxlr » Sat Jun 25, 2011 11:40 pm

It really is unfortunate that the military still doesnt accept people with Gender Identity Disorder, or anyone who has had corrective surgery (that is what I believe srs to be. It corrects a birth defect.) The military claimes they are more accepting of the vast range of differences in the world, and yet when someone like us tries to join, pre transition they try to say we have a potential mental health risk, and post transition, they call it genital mutilation, akin to amputation, and say we cant join because of that either. I really cant stand this, because that means that I, a veteran of 3 years, and one combat deployment, who is planning on becoming a minister in one of the most under-represented churches in the military, cant join to help the soldiers after. I had to lie when I went to military in-processing, saying that I had no conditions, even though i know I have a major birth defect. On a side note, however, the military can be quite helpful, too, as long as they dont find out you are trans-gender. After your time in, if you get an honorable discharge, you can get the VA benefits after your out, and they can pay for therapy and hormone replacement therapy. As far as long term effects go, the military is good. But for the short term, trying to cope with GID while your in can be difficult, and there really arent very many people you can talk to.

That is unfair, hedgesxlr. It's a real shame that not everyone can be in the military, I think anyone who pays taxes and is fit should be able to join, GID or not. This is more a sexual identity thing than a disorder.

Well having served 20 years I think it's B.S. to force the military to accept homosexuals. It gauls me that civilians, especially the crop of idiots now in the government of the US to include O'dirtbag, became experts in the United States Military when they never served a damn day in uniform and have shown nothing but abject hate for it.

Homosexuality and sexual deviancy IS NOT compatable and never has been compatable with the modern military.

Homosexuality or GID are not deviancy, please don't say insulting things about people, dan.
