Hi, timoty95,
Check out this thread. In it are several great links to sites dealing with transgender issues.

Welcome to our forum.
It is great that your mom is supportive. That is a rare thing for most transgender folks, who find they are traveling a lonely path.

It depends where you live I guess. With people with strong religious values opposed to transsexuals (or what they perceive as sins and pervertions), it's usually harder. I've had no problem having my mother, three younger brothers (I live with two of them and my mother) accept me. My father, his girlfriend, and her daughter (sort of my step-sister I guess) accepted me too.
I announced my intention of transitioning I was almost 23, I jumped the 'leap' at nearly 24. I'm now nearly 26.
