Quarantine for the compulsive gambler

Postby Jemerson2015 » Tue Mar 31, 2020 8:14 pm

These are trying times to be sure but if we can get something good out of this mess we should be grateful. I was never a sports gambler but many of us are so this is the perfect time to get over those urges since there aren't going to be any sports for a couple months. Give yourself credit for not gambling even if you can't. Remember these days and the way you spent your time, come up with constructive things to do and just keep doing them when this is over.

I was a casino gambler who started out playing poker and blackjack online. This would have been torture for me with all of this free time and internet access. The good news for me can be the same for others like me though. I'm self-excluded from all internet casinos so I still couldn't gamble even if I wanted to. I haven't bet in over six years but I did have one of those thoughts recently because of this. I'm just glad I didn't have the option to act on it.

If I'm being honest I'd say that throwing a deposit on some poker website tonight sounds like a lot of fun.

But I'm not going to ruin six years of not gambling because I had a few beers.

I agree also. I still have that attraction to gambling and it doesn't seem like it go away anytime soon. However, when I think about more clearly, I KNOW I can't do it responsibly and I don't want to lose my GF time. Keep up the good work!

More recently, I've actually found my gambling urges reduced by this situation.

With all the stresses, work issues, family, health of course, I've not really wanted to consider gambling much. Winning money (and obv losing it too) would not do anything for my mental state and happiness right now. There's become bigger mental fish to fry for me than money.

I agree with all 3 of you; these are the times when we are tempted to go online and do some gambling. But like all of you, I think of all the time I've gone through being GF and what a waste it would be to relapse now.....it was the same for me when I quit smoking......every time I was tempted to start again, I would think of all the days I had gone smoke-free, and that did deter me from starting again.......

I only gambled in brick and mortar casinos . The thought of walking into one of those human petri dishes right now horrifies me .

I'm glad to see so many of them close due to the pandemic but I do fear that online gambling is going to increase because of it .

Yeah Quarantine gave us new perspective to many things, one of them is gambling as well.
I was/am heavy sports gambling addict and to be honest are not having hard times not making bets and would prefer that is banned for ever in way but then from other point of view i can see thet my life is not better at all without not placing bets.
As always it comes down to your lifestyle and happines about your life.
As soon as I find something that can fullfil me I will not struggle to say by by to Gambling but I am afraid I am running out of time because it is not easy to change your life just like that(proffession, social life, relationships).
I dont what to say apart from that life is life...Gambling or not gambling, we are just small subjects of matter floating around so dont be so down even if you are stuck in gambling because it is not end of world anyway.
Imagine having dream life(loaded of money, hot chicks, nice job....and then you get sick)...so yeah be just grateful for any day spent without real suffer( i dont real suffer is if you lost money on gambling, imagine worst things like being really sick and diening in pain....)

Folks, GF here for 44 days via the fact all brick and mortar casinos closed down and I have never done the internet thing and will not start now. Actually my last trip about 50 days ago was a huge bad beat on the crap table and I lost all I had won on the six previous trips and more. Life here in N.Va. has come to a grinding stop. I hope we can get some mitigating drugs and a vaccine soon and get back to some kind of life. I miss the casino, but can handle it and seem to have more money now. LOL.

NSR made the point about casinos being human petri dishes. Prior to the virus I often noticed that the help on the crap table was sick since most "had" to work. We handled filthy chips constantly and also the same dice. I know I have caught many colds there standing shoulder to shoulder with sick folk. Unless we find a vaccine hard to see how casinos can ever really re-open with table games. Have a hard time seeing how life has not been hugely altered. Hopefully we can avoid the second wave. Disappointing to see some trying to undue results we have made with social distancing. Truly the closing of the brick and mortar casinos is the best thing that happened to many, many players.
