Is Self-Exclusion Useful?

Postby NoMoreBetsPlease » Sun Dec 01, 2019 3:46 am

I am in discussion in another forum about self-exclusion, and I feel like I'm being in minority because most of the forum members say that self-exclusion is pointless and useless and the gambler needs to control his actions by himself and work on his own self-control and discipline.

Can you please share your own opinion to this notion? I'd just love to show other people that they (and not the gamblers) are the ones living in denial in anything related to self-exclusion and possibly other similar topics related to gambling addiction.

I am all for self-exclusion. It is one extra barrier to put between yourself and gambling. The thought of being charged for trespassing it enough for me to not even attempt it. I have heard stories of people still sneaking in, but I rather not risk the criminal record. I think self-exclusion is very powerful for casino gambling, but not as effective for online gambling due to the numerous sites. Anti-gambling software would be more effecting for online, but handing over your complete finances (if possible) to someone you trust would be most effective.

This may seem a harsh opinion, but you asked.....This gambling addiction is as serious a disease as anyone could be afflicted with.....after all it can definitely ruin your life and even take your life.
It is also a strong enough addiction to where most people cannot beat it by themselves. Therefore, you have avenues or sources of help, like GA, and self-exclusion, and letting someone you trust like your husband or wife control all your finances. These are some of the major methods suggested to help those who are desperately in need of it, AND REALLY WANT TO QUIT.

In my opinion, no one is forced to use these methods, but for anyone to denigrate or dismiss them as not useful, is showing either arrogance or ignorance, and I'm trying put it nicely.

Hi all,

Maybe this is a bit too late now, but I would like to give my feedback on this matter. My biggest problem used to be online gambling. As mentioned it is quite hard, because there are so many online casinos, but depending on where you live, things can be taking a turn, and I will now explain.

I am an european, living out of europe. In my particular home country, where my bank accounts are, legislation has shifted, and so has in many countries. So many countries now, are restricting the online casino, and only allowing certain types of games and users to be registered (and you have to proove it) in that country (which believe it or not, it is not that simple nowadays). And why do I say this... that huge amount of casinos is no longer available. So when I self exclude from some site, I am narrowing down my chances. I have now done it in all the online casinos that were available in my country. I no longer have the problem to be alone in my house, with available credit on my account. I have played in more than 10 different major sites... now I don't. And I have lost that hurge to look and open new accounts...

So yes, even to online gamblers, self exclusion is a big help. (altough it not covers it all).
