Is it possible to gamble everyday and NOT be addicted?

I was talking to my wife the other day and she was telling me about this guy who gambles everyday. Anyway, while I was driving to work today I was thinking about this guy and automatically assumed he must have an addiction, but over the years I have learned that it is dangerous to always 'assume', so I began to question my assumption.

Is it possible to gamble everyday and not be addicted? To gamble everyday and not have the emotional attachment from the addiction.

I think it has to be Yes (even though I have never met anyone that fits it), due to the sheer number of people who gamble every day. There must be at least ONE, who isn't an addict..

I think the only way to know if something is an addiction is to see what happens when you try to stop doing it . That , to me is the litmus test . I certainly think anything is possible .

Say , for example , a guy stops at a casino every day after work and gambles $20 . Then , win or lose , he walks out the door and goes home to get on with the rest of his evening . That doesn't sound like a full blown gambling addiction to me . It sounds like a habit .

Now if that same guy wakes up on Saturday and Sunday morning and heads to the casino to play his $20 and leave , I think it takes it up a level . If he's gambling online, that's another factor to take in to consideration .

I tried to think of an activity that I do every single day . Outside of grooming , eating and work routines , I couldn't really come up with anything . I suppose exercise could fall into that category if I were a regular gym goer . It's hard to imagine working out as being an addiction but I'm aware that there are documented cases of it .

I think if a person goes to the casino and don’t gamble or just drop $20 like NSR mentioned, perhaps they are not really an addict. For example there was this retired guy raving to me about how good a particular early breakfast special was in the casino and he went there almost everyday and leave as soon as he finished eating.

I remembered years ago before I was actively into slots, I had to walk across the casino floors twice a day, 6 day a week to get to my work place and in the 5 months that I was there, I did not drop a single dollar, looking back I found it pretty amazing.

To your question Aries411, I am sure there are people who could gamble daily and don’t have any emotional attachment or perhaps they just don’t feel anymore.

Me personally hell to the na. I went 6 months without gambling and one I put $10 and won $50 the cycle continued. I think gambling all together is an addiction like i only smoke one cigarette a day. In both you can ask why not just quit if it's meaningless. My mother has an addiction to gambling and whe gets $900 monthly in SSI and she calls it a hobby but her and my stepdad were living in a hotel room for months because they both have an addiction. Every morning my mom leaves at 430 am and comes back around noon and says I just went and played my $5 free slot play. So for me gambling is an addiction because there is only one goal everyone has is to win money.
