Hi New user I wont give the big story, Addict for over 10 years in early 30s debt and stress to the eyeballs like everyone else.
I have an idea on a good way to control spending, will give it a crack over the coming weeks but was wondering if anyone has done something similar.
Its very tricky getting by without the cards i tried it before going to the bank for all withdraws and it was very difficult.
So I have just now set up a visa debit card with another bank , My pay goes into my personal bank account I have got rid of the cards linked to this account. It takes 2 days for the funds to clear over on to the debit card. So I am planning on transferring whatever money i need onto the debit card for the next two days ahead. If the funds run out i cant impulse gamble on the spot knowing the money wont clear for 2 days.
Has anyone tried something similar ? Pitfalls ? either way will update how it goes if anyones interested.

Welcome Mikesbattles ,
I was so compulsive at my worst ( and last ) stage of this addiction that if there was any way to get my hands on some cash to gamble with , I would have found it . For me , It was worth going card-free for a few months just to take away the option of being able to get money at the push of a button . I drew up a strict budget and made myself stick to it . I left myself roughly $10-20 a week and threw every other penny onto bills and my debt the minute my paycheck hit the bank .
I bought myself store / Visa gift cards for food and gas ( can't redeem them for cash ) and I made myself look at my list of debts ( about 30-35K , mostly credit cards and bank loans ) every single morning when I had my coffee . Here's the truth : getting this addiction out of our lives is difficult , unpleasant and uncomfortable . It's war and for that you need a battle plan .
But it can be done . If one idea doesn't work out for you , try something else - try everything else . You deserve to be free from this disease and have your life back . We'll help you any way we can .
