Not sure how many people here are in the New England television markets, but the ads for the casino that will open soon in Springfield, Massachusetts are really sad. They show an elderly woman in a parade, on top of a giant float of slot machines, she pulls the lever and gets a win, and the people walking along side the float all cheer -- making her feel important and also part of a group of admirers. We all know the reality of gambling is hardly like a group of friends and good times.
I don't get how the government can lock someone up for many years for dealing drugs, but the government can promote casinos. Their presence in a community increases indebtedness, family problems and is associated with increased levels of employee embezzlement and suicide.
