Gambling as proposition

Postby Clevergreen » Fri May 04, 2018 7:51 pm

Imagine you had to sell the idea of gambling to your younger self in a presentation, it might look something like this

•will make you depressed
•will ruin most of your relationships
•will make you lie to everyone
•will put you in serious debt
•could ruin your career
•will make you anxious
•will make you suicidal
•will make you a recluse
•YOU WILL NEVER WIN

Imagine doing this on a powerpoint to your younger self and seeing that reaction? after a ga meeting today on a one to one basis we carried out this exercise and i felt it helped after thinking about the logic behind it. Once gambling has you by the balls you are blinkered. I hope i can get 100 days without any urges but now with the work on discrediting the logic of gambling has helped me massively and by sharing this i hope this can help someone else

Hi Clevergreen: Thanks for a great post! I really like it for its perspective and the points you made...

It reminds me of Morgan Freeman's speech in that movie, "Shawshank Redemption", when he went up
before the parole board for the 3rd time, after spending 40 years of a life sentence....
He said something about thinking back to the way he was as a stupid kid committing that horrible crime, and how he wishes he could go back and talk some sense into that kid, tell him how things are, but he can't, because that kid is gone, and all that's left is this old man...

In the same way, I think back to how I was as a young kid, and I wish somebody could've educated me on what gambling really does to a person; it would've saved me a lot of misery and heartbreak.

Thanks again!

That’s right! You can never win. Yes you win small but lose bigger. It becomes a sickening cycle and when you look back it all you lose so much already time and huge money. We become someone we are not supposed to be when we gamble. Really bad option.
