The Lies of the Addiction

Postby Aries411 » Sat Apr 07, 2018 9:11 pm

As we know, this addiction often does everything it can to sustain itself and 'lies' to us constantly in order for us to continue gambling. Here are my top 10 'lies', how about yours?

1. Its only 1 bet
2. This will be the last one and then I'll stop
3. I don't have a problem. I can stop whenever I want
4. I have been doing great the last few days, I deserve a small break
5. I have lost quite a bit, but if I keep playing, but it will even out. I know I'll eventually win and then I'll stop
6. After playing for so long (Im a sports better), I know the game quite well now and have an edge. I know I can win over the long run
7. I should have won last time, it was pure luck that I lost. I'll win the next time.
8. I'll spend half my money on the things I need and I'll spend the other half on gambling. Thus I can afford it and it is not really harming me
9. Just like any entertainment, there is always a price to it. So my losses are just like the price for entertainment
10. If you don't play, you can't win

If you come across these thoughts in the future, please be aware of them and remember that it is not our REAL thoughts, but the addiction trying to continue to survive and ruin our live. Don’t give in!

Wishing you all another gamble free day!

Well, let me see if I can remember some of the things the voice in my head would say to me, to make it alright to gamble:

1) Life is a gamble...you're gambling every time you leave the house and get into your car.
2) I'm not like other people who have a gambling problem; I'm not an addict.
3) When I hit the big win and get all my money back, I will quit gambling forever.
4) Gambling is fun.
5) It's only a problem if you lose.
6) Nobody will know if I win or lose anyway.
7) I can win that money back; I've done it before.
8) Money won is better than money earned; it's free!
9) People who don't gamble have no courage to risk their money.
10) Bet more, win more.

Well, this in addition to the list you made is all the familiar thoughts I would have to go gambling.

Aries411, all your top 10 lies are exactly what I told myself except for no.6, I only play the slots and it is a guarantee loser, that is the way the machines are designed.

Here is a few more:

11) I worked so hard, business is good and I deserve to treat myself.

12) It is my birthday or my husband birthday and we should do what we like.

13) I only live once and can bring nothing with me when I am gone.

I am so happy to be free of this horrible addiction, never again. It took a long time to get back to normal and live like a human being.

Here's a few of mine :

1) Nobody suspects the extent of my gambling . I'm fooling everybody .

2) All I need is to get rid of the debt . That's my biggest problem .

3) Every time I try to stop , I just go right back again so I might as well give up trying .

4) My gambling doesn't affect anyone but me .

5) I can control my gambling by following some self-imposed " rules " .

6) I'm due for a big win that will fix everything .

7) If I stop now , I'll lose the chance of getting my money back .

It's scary how , in the grip of the addiction , all of that seemed to be utterly true . Until I hit that brick wall of reality .

2). This is my last binge
3). Go big or go home
4). I'll just wait until second chance drawings
5). I'll just try one new ticket
